Mud House Hawkes Bay Merlot 2009
Harvest on both blocks of Merlot was within 3 days of each other, commencing on the 25 March. The fruit was brought into the winery where it was destemmed and then put into a fermenter. The fermentation took 10 days, during which it was pumped over twice a day to help extract colour, fruit flavour and tannin. The wine then went through a full MLF in stainless steel before being fined using natural methods prior to bottling.

WINE BACKGROUND
VINTAGE REGION
The fruit was sourced from two Hawke’s Bay vineyards; The Stewart vineyard in the Bridge-pa sub region and the Te Awa vineyard in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels.
VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The season started with a wet February which we were lucky did not affect the Merlot. A cooler than usual but very settled March gave us perfect long ripening in both vineyard sites.
GRAPE VARIETY
95% Merlot with a hint of Cab Franc.
MATURATION
Maturation of this wine was in a mix of stainless steel vessels and older French oak barques.
